Abstract
This study aims to examine the impact of the superiority complex of the Chief Internal Auditor on the lack of communication with the audit team and its effect on the institution’s value. A questionnaire was designed and divided into three main dimensions: (1) the superiority complex of the Chief Internal Auditor, (2) the lack of communication skills within the audit team, and (3) the institution’s value. The study targeted employees working in the internal audit departments of Iraqi universities, with a sample of 186 internal auditors. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS v.26. The study’s findings indicate a negative relationship between the independent variable (the superiority complex of the Chief Internal Auditor) and the dependent variable (institutional value), meaning that an increase in the superiority complex leads to a decline in the institution’s value. Additionally, the study found a strong positive relationship between the Chief Internal Auditor’s superiority complex and the audit team’s lack of communication. In other words, the more the Chief Internal Auditor exhibits a superiority complex, the more significant the communication gap with the audit team. One of the key recommendations of the study is that the role of the Chief Internal Auditor should be preventive to mitigate risks that may damage the reputation of educational institutions, mainly due to unresolved observations in external audit reports, which often result in the formation of integrity committees. Finally, the Chief Internal Auditor should enhance the effectiveness of internal audit teams through continuous and sustainable communication, including regular training programs that improve auditors’ capabilities in monitoring all institutional activities—not only financial ones but also academic operations.
